Is Flossing Really Essential?
23 September 2015
Most people know how important it is to brush their teeth twice a day, but often underestimate the value of flossing. We recommend that you make using dental floss or tape a regular part of your oral hygiene routine, as it can have numerous long-term benefits.
Flossing to prevent gum disease
Dental floss allows you to remove the plaque that your normal toothbrush just can’t reach; the areas in between your teeth and along your gum line. It’s essential to get rid of this sticky substance because a build up can irritate your gums and cause them to become inflamed, later leading to bleeding or infection.
Flossing for fresh breath
Flossing on a daily basis also helps you keep your breath fresh, as the small particles of food left behind after brushing are one of the causes of bad breath. Interdental brushes are another easy way to remove plaque and keep your teeth and gums at their best. Please ask your dentist or hygienist for more information about the types of interdental brushes that we recommend.
